FileTurn: A PDF and File Converter App for iPhone
Our new app takes the file you have and turns it into the one you were asked for: Word to PDF, PDF to JPG, photos to PDF, and simple PDF tools in one place.
Most of the time, there’s nothing wrong with your file. The content is right. The format is wrong.
A job portal only accepts PDFs, and your CV is a Word document. A supplier sends a price list as a PDF, and you need the figures in a spreadsheet. A form wants three signed pages as a single attachment, and all you have is three photos in your camera roll. On a laptop, each of these takes a minute. On a phone, it usually means digging through share menus, trying a website that asks for your email first, or putting it off until you’re back at a desk.
We built FileTurn for those moments. It’s a file converter and PDF toolkit for iPhone and iPad, and it went live on the App Store on October 11, 2026. You give it the file you have, and it gives you the file you were asked for, ready to open, save or share.

What FileTurn does
Think of it as a document converter, an image converter and a small PDF toolkit in one app. With FileTurn you can:
- Convert Word documents and Excel spreadsheets to PDF
- Convert PDFs to Word, Excel, plain text or images
- Turn JPG and PNG images into PDFs
- Switch images between supported formats
- Merge several PDFs into one, or split one into separate pages
- Add a password to a PDF
- Extract the text or the images from a supported document
- Resize images and bundle files into a ZIP
What matters more than the list is where you start. With most converters, you pick a tool first and hope your file works with it. FileTurn works the other way around. You choose the file, FileTurn works out what type it is, and it shows you only the tools and output formats that apply. Choose a PDF and you’ll see PDF options, like converting it to Word or splitting it into pages. Choose a photo and you’ll see image and PDF options instead. You don’t need to know anything about file formats to get the right result.
How to convert a file on iPhone with FileTurn
Converting a file to PDF, turning a PDF into images, merging a stack of documents: every tool in the app follows the same five steps.
Choose a file. Open FileTurn and pick the document or image you want to work with.
See your options. FileTurn identifies the file type and lists what it can become.
Pick the result you need, such as PDF, Word, Excel or JPG.
Adjust the settings that apply. Depending on the task, you can select pages, set the image resolution or dimensions, or add a password to the output file.
Convert and share. Open the finished file, save it, or send it straight from the share sheet.
Learn it once and you know how every other tool works.
Everyday conversions
Word to PDF and Excel to PDF on iPhone
A PDF looks the same on every screen and prints the same on every printer, which is why application forms, schools and clients keep asking for one. It also stops anyone from accidentally changing your numbers, which is worth a lot when you’re sending a quote or an invoice.
To convert Word to PDF on your iPhone, choose the Word document in FileTurn and pick PDF. Excel spreadsheets work the same way. You don’t need the Word or Excel app installed, because the conversion runs on FileTurn’s conversion service rather than on your phone.
PDF to Word, Excel or text
Going the other direction is where phones usually fall short. FileTurn converts a PDF to:
- Word, when you need to edit the wording
- Excel, when the useful part is a table of figures
- Plain text, when you only need the words
A note on expectations: the cleaner the PDF, the cleaner the result. A PDF that was exported from Word or Excel tends to convert well. A scanned page is really a picture of text, so there may be little or no editable text to recover, and complex layouts can need some tidying afterward.
Photo to PDF on iPhone (JPG and PNG to PDF)
Receipts for an expense claim, a signed form, handwritten notes, the whiteboard at the end of a meeting. Taking a photo and converting it is often the quickest way to make a PDF on iPhone from something on paper, and the result looks like a document rather than another picture in your camera roll.
To convert an image to PDF on iPhone, pick a JPG or PNG in FileTurn, choose PDF, and convert. If you have several pages to send together, convert each image, then use Merge PDFs to put them into one file in the order you want.
PDF to JPG or PNG on iPhone
Sometimes a PDF is the wrong format for where it’s going. Chat apps show images right in the conversation, and some upload forms only accept JPG. Convert a PDF to JPG or PNG, choose which pages to save, and set the image resolution. Higher resolution gives you sharper text and a larger file.
Switching image formats
Some sites accept JPG but not PNG, or the other way around. FileTurn switches images between supported formats, for example PNG to JPG, without opening a photo editor.
Text, CSV, RTF, HTML and XML files
FileTurn also works with plain text, CSV, RTF, HTML and XML files. As with everything else, choose the file and FileTurn shows which outputs are available for it. You’ll find the complete list under Supported Formats in the app.
PDF tools that go beyond conversion
Merge PDFs in the order you choose
The Files app can combine PDFs with its Create PDF action, but it puts them in file name order, so getting the order right often means renaming files first. In FileTurn, you add the PDFs and arrange their order before you merge. It’s handy for putting a cover letter, CV and certificates into one application file, or for combining the pages of a form you scanned one at a time.
Split a PDF into pages
Need to send one page of a long document? Split the PDF into individual pages and share only the one that matters, rather than the whole file.
Password-protect a PDF
Add a password to the output PDF before you send payslips, statements, medical letters or anything else you wouldn’t want the wrong person to open. One habit worth keeping: send the password through a different channel than the file, for example by text if the PDF went by email.
Extract text and images from a PDF
Copy the text out of a supported document instead of retyping it, or save the images inside it, such as a logo, a chart or the product photos in a catalog.
Resize images and create ZIP files
When a website wants a profile photo or an upload at exact dimensions, set the width and height you need. When you’re sending a batch of files, package them into a single ZIP so the person on the other end gets one tidy attachment.
Keep your most-used tools on Home
Most people come back to the same two or three tools. Pin the ones you use most to Home, whether that’s Word to PDF, PDF to JPG or Merge PDF, so they’re a tap away. When you need something else, search the tool collection. FileTurn also follows light mode, dark mode or your device’s appearance setting.
Can’t my iPhone already do some of this?
Some of it, yes, and the built-in options are worth knowing:
- In the Files app, press and hold an image, then choose Quick Actions > Create PDF.
- In many apps that can print, open the print preview and pinch outward on it to get a PDF you can save or share.
- Select several PDFs in Files and Create PDF will combine them, ordered by file name.
If you turn a photo into a PDF a couple of times a year, those are probably all you need. They get clumsy when you do this often, when you need a specific page order, or when the job has no built-in route at all, like turning a PDF back into an editable Word file or a spreadsheet. FileTurn keeps these tasks in one place and uses the same steps every time.
What to know before you convert
We’d rather you know how FileTurn works before you rely on it.
It needs an internet connection. Files stay on your device until you start a job. When you do, the file is uploaded over HTTPS to our conversion service, processed, and the result comes back to the app. The service isn’t used as a permanent archive of your documents. Some BoMoSi apps run entirely on your device; FileTurn doesn’t, and we explain how this differs across our apps in What “privacy-first” means across the BoMoSi portfolio. The full details are in the FileTurn privacy policy.
Each file can be up to about 3 MB. Typical Word documents, spreadsheets and screenshots fit easily. Long scanned PDFs and full-resolution photos from recent iPhones may not.
Results depend on the source file. The formats you’re offered, and how the output looks, depend on what the original file contains.
Compatibility. FileTurn needs iOS 15 or iPadOS 15 or later. The App Store also lists it as compatible with Macs that have an Apple M1 chip or later, and with Apple Vision Pro. The app is in English.
Free to download, with FileTurn Pro for more
FileTurn is free to download, and the free version is supported by ads. FileTurn Pro adds more tools and advanced options, and it comes as a monthly or yearly subscription. On the US App Store, Pro costs $2.99 a month or $19.99 a year, which works out to about $1.67 a month on the yearly plan. Prices for your country appear on the upgrade screen, along with the current list of Pro features.
Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel them in your App Store account settings, and you can restore an existing purchase from inside the app.
